This author is trying to deal with a great loss from a familiar tormentor, that has taken other valuable people out of his life. At the same time he is trying not to loose his religion. Trying to deal with a premature loss myself, I can feel his pain.

A great personal journal from the Author, C.S. Lewis. If you are or have experienced Grief, this is a great book to read. It's an older book but human emotions never change. Highly Recommend!

Great book for christians dealing with loss of a loved one, causing one to question God's goodness or even His existence. Deep grief. Deep pain. Heavy duty reading. I have read it through, and must read it again.

This book is definitely recommended for anyone who has recently lost a loved one. Lewis has a way of making one see the larger picture even in the midst of mind-numbing grief. Having just lost my husband of 38 years I didn't expect much from anything I heard from friends or things I read to have an effect on me at all. But Lewis doesn't use cliches or ridiculous analogies. He has a way of knowing just where to "press" to get one to see that there IS a reason to go on. And not just to sleep-walk but to joyously embrace all that "grieving" is. It is just as much a part of a loving relationship as was the wedding and the honeymoon! I'm thankful I read this and I plan to read it over again a few times to get more insight from this very compassionate man.
Good information for emotionally devastated spouses. A few parts were a little beyond my understanding because of the writing style (but then I'm not the brightest light bulb on the block).
