I've heard a lot about Dark Souls and even watched playthroughs, but the actual gameplay is even more difficult than I expected and I've gained a lot of respect for the people who play it with such skill that things I find hard enough to make me pull hair out can do it as easily as breathing.

Ugly, clunky, tedious and frustrating mess with an unearned reputation as a challenging game stemming from terrible and dated design choices that have less to do with "gitting gud" and more to do with learning how to exploit the numerous poorly developed systems and AI. And that this is an overpriced "remaster" that also requires Nintendo's paid online service to enjoy the game's only novel features is just the cherry on top. I stopped playing this after two days and just got Monster Hunter World instead.

Dark Souls is an action-rpg developed by Japanese studio From Software, who have a long history of producing amazing video game software. In this game you battle your way across a harsh, dying kingdom twisted by dark magic and plagues in an effort to restore the world to peace by sacrificing yourself to a great magical fire. The game is lonely, with few NPC characters and fewer of them your allies. The combat is slow and meaty, with heavy sound effects and dazzling blood spatters to punctuate the high damage each weapon puts out, even when wielded by enemies. It's the definition of risk vs reward, and an excellent title for the experienced player.

Arrived much earlier than I expected and plays wonderfully both handheld and docked. Great way to play a classic game. The sound is a little tinny in the Switch's built in speakers but it's hardly noticable.
