I recently purchased "Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers" because I was looking for beer recipes that would be more natural with ingredients that I could grow in my garden. This book has surpassed my expectations. In the first half, Buhner goes around the world writing about different native peoples beliefs about life and the integral role beer plays in their daily lives. He includes at least one native recipe from each culture and often a modern equivalent for the more exotic ingredients. The second half is organized by herb or tree and various recipes for each including Spruce Beer, Pine Ale, Dandelion Beer and Horehound Ale. Overall, I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the history and the different cultural importance of herbs and beer as well as anyone looking for unique and natural recipes.Read full review
We recently got a referral to the book, Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers by Stephen Harrod Buhner , as a MUST read for home brewers. I did a quick search online and found it for a reasonable price here on eBay. Both my husband and I are very impressed with the book and a variety of information it has in it, from the history of brewing to many unusual recipes. Though we have not tried any of the recipes yet, we will be trying a few shortly. I would recommend this book to anyone who like to brew,if you happen to be a history buff too.. all the better.
