I've mostly used 10x, it is truly 10x. As someone noted in the group anything less expensive would be a toy. The only drawback I have is that I wish it were LED instead of a bulb. It isn’t as bright a light as I would like but I use supplemental light so it works okay. I would recommend this microscope
