The first solo album by John Elefante, "Windows of Heaven," is a heart-felt, testament to faith. Abandoning much of the sound of his former band Mastedon and channeling the dynamics and the prog-rock sensibilities that he showcased with Kansas in the early-to-mid 1980's (see the albums "Vinyl Confessions" and "Drastic Measures" by Kansas in which John Elefante provided lead vocals and keyboards) Elefante has crafted an album that showcases his incredible voice as well as his sense of melody. That being said, I will admit that "Windows of Heaven" required several listens before it began to capture me unlike his third solo release "Defying Gravity," which is certainly his best, most accomplished solo work. However, "Windows of Heaven" has much to offer, going beyond traditional pop and rock and adding a richer tapestry of sound than is commonly found on the radio today whether in the CCM or secular market. If you enjoy Kansas, The Moody Blues, or progressive rock, you will certainly find much to like here!Read full review
