This is a terrible CD by Whitesnake. I was expecting great things from this release, but was very dissapointed. If you are buying this CD with expectations of 80's Whitesnake, you will also be dissapointed. Unlike the 80's Whitesnake which had thundering metal songs like Children of the Night, Give me all your love, etc.. and great ballads like Here I go Again, this new CD has neither. The songs on Good to be bad are, for the most part, slow, plodding, boring, poorly written songs, and are devoid of any catchy riff laden guitar work. In addition to the poor guitar work, Coverdales voice sounds strained and un-melodic (if thats a word). You would be better served to pick up the restless heart CD if you want to hear quality songs reminiscent of vintage Coverdale, such as Dont Fade Away which is awesome!! I really wish I could say something good about "Good to be bad", because I really like Whitesnake, and I always support any new releases by 80's metal bands by paying full price for their CDs (and I will continue to do so), however, this is a terrible, quickly thrown together CD with no memorable songs. I hope they put out another CD soon, and please, crank up the guitars and pick up the pace on at least half of the songs, and please, do not play the songs in the super-boring style of nu-metal that all true metal fans abhor. Whitesnake will always be remembered in the Heavy Metal family by its fans, and when a new CD is released this is what we want it to sound like- "Heavy Metal"!!!Read full review
I am a Whitesnake fan from way back and I have to say this is as an accomplished cd that could be made. David Coverdale has to be in his mid sixties easy and still belts like he did in the eighties. He has a good supporting group that can make the guitars squeal and drums thunder. My fav song on the album is a long six plus minute ballad called "Summer Rain" because it just hits me in the right place everytime I hear it. Is that not what music is supposed to do? The album from start to finish rocks out and is worthy of the Whitesnake name. Mr. Coverdale, you have done it again, too bad you'll never hear any of it on mainstream radio or on MTV because of the wanna be hip exec's that think this music is not relevant anymore. Bravo Mr. Coverdale, bravo.
I always liked Whitesnake, the pre glam Whitesnake and the mid 80's version. This one is a mix of both eras. The musicians David Coverdale uses in this version of Whitesnake are all at the virtuoso level. Coverdales voice has aged gracefully and sounds better than ever. There are 2 ballets and the 1st song is actually the weakest on the cd, but that's the only weakness, if you consider the power ballets weakness.Last song in my opinion my be one of the best Whitesnake songs ever. Has not left my cd player for 2 months. 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
wow!! i'm a big 80's metal fan,and most of the 80's bands that try to put out new cds in this age. dont come close to their previous cds. i tried this one,and i was shocked, this cd rocks!!bad to be good,is my favorite song, excellent guitars, and coverdale sounds just as good as he always did.i got this as a 2 disc set,the second cd is all live, buy this ,you wont be disappointed. thank you whitesnake for bringing the 80's sound back!!
Good to Be Bad marks Whitesnake's 30th anniversary as a band-though frontman David Coverdale is the only original member. It's their first studio album since 1998's Restless Heart, which was never released in the United States. The current incarnation of Whitesnake is Coverdale, guitarists Doug Aldrich, and Reb Beach, bassist Uriah Duffy, keyboardist Timothy Drury, and drummer Chris Frazier. Frazier is the band's newest member; the others appeared on 2006's Live ... In the Shadow of the Blues. This is a seasoned road group, but it remained to be heard if they could pull it off in the studio. "Good To Be Bad" is, really, quintessence of all of the best, for what we love "Whitesnake". Here and gallant hard rock hymns and songs, characteristic groupsfor early creativity and something reminding " Led Zeppelin ", and, of course, 3 sensual ballads about the love the second of which -" Summer Rain "- all any doubts becomes a hit were famous.Read full review
