Back in the 1970's this was the first Queen album I didn't purchase since becoming a fan after the release of their second single 'Seven Seas of Rhye'. At the time of the albums original release in 1977, I thought the band had moved too far from the amazing sounds created on the first several albums. Although I bought(at the time)the single 'We Are The Champions', it became the first track that made me think the band were moving into a semi more predictable 'Queen Style'.... How wrong could I have been all those years ago, not realising that it was that breadth of versatile songwriting that made all of Queens albums magical releases. 'News Of The World' is certainly an album that I personally should never have overlooked back in 1977, as it is easily as strong as the albums that went before it. Any album that features the mega hits 'We Will Rock You','We Are The Champions' and 'Spread your Wings', obviously has plenty going for it. I also adore the tracks 'Sheer Heart Attack' and 'Get Down Make Love'. Of the 11 tracks here, there's no filler material, each track sees Queen totally on top of their game. I must comment on the mini album style artwork and the Japanese remastering of this release. The artwork has been faithfully reproduced from the original release in all it's fold out glory. The music has also undergone a transformation, with EMI Japan remastering much of the Queen back catalogue in 2001. The sound quality on these releases far outshines the UK remasters from 1994, and I would strongly advice anyone wishing to add this album to their collection to seek out a Japanese release. Slightly more expensive than the British versions, but still coming in under £10 if you look about. A Highly recommended album ++++++Read full review
