In comparison to many of my "classic rock nut" conterparts, I am relatively young. with this in mind, I have spent the past 2 years in an "experimentive" stage, buying, downloading, and sampling any kind of classic rock on which I can get my hands. One of my co-workers, who shares my passion, introduced me to Little Feat a while back, and while LOVING them and seeing their influences, etc. I came across Leon Russell as a suggestion. Instantly, I fell in love with Leon's southern, twangy, New Orleans draw, mixed with his passion fueled piano playing. I am definitely a sucker for larger bands wih multiple backup singers, and from the sounds of this Leon Live performance, this was one hell of a show!!! I actually became interested in Russell's live shows when I first encountered Joe Cocker's live show; Mad Dogs and Englishmen.... for which Leon Russell contributed his voice and piano skills. I can honestly that since I acquired this album 2 months ago, it has not left my CD player, and I must have heard both discs the full way through two dozen times each by now. there is something to Leon Russells music that puts me at ease, while firing me up with good beats, and verses that inspire you to sing along. All in all, if you are even THINKING about buying this album, DO IT, I promise you will love it forever!Read full review
"Concert for Bangla Desh' was my introduction to Leon Russell, and I've been a huge fan ever since. I was lucky enough to see Leon nine times, and even the worst of the shows I saw was better than this. On 'Leon Live', Leon's performance sounds a little like he's trying too hard to find the soul that was always present when I saw him, as well as on most of the many Leon albums I own. The editing on the CD doesn't make you feel like your at the show; it's rather choppy. And the sound quality is only fair; this sounds like a rush mixing, editing and mastering job, from a small, new-ish, low-budget label (which is what it was, in my understanding). Conversely, 'The Live Album' with Leon and New Grass Revival is excellent, but hard to find on CD. The same show is on the easy-to-find DVD - buy that instead!Read full review
