I have been listening to Alice since 1972, the year I heard and bought my first AC album, Billion Dollar Babies (the LP with the billion dollar bill enclosed). Over the decades he has adapted to the times (i.e. Special Forces/Flush The Fashion), but it's still been Alice all along. I've been to two of his concerts and loved every second of both of them. But this album is different. Sometimes I was unsure that Alice was doing the singing. The music was good, but the vocals just didn't sound like Alice all the time. I hope this album is the exception and not the rule for the future of AC music. I gave it a good rating, because of the music, but if I had to rate the vocals, I'm afraid they would only get a Below Average (good tonal quality, but didn't "sound" like the AC I know). The classic Alice is and always will be the best. Long live Classic Rock!!Read full review
Main reason I'm giving this CD a four-star rating is because I felt that plenty of time and effort went into the making of this record. At least half of these tunes seem to possess that [original] Alice Cooper group-style vibe and 'feel' that had initially shocked the world and pissed off a lot of parents in the early '70's. Standouts are easy to spot - like "Woman Of Mass Distraction", the catchy title cut "Dirty Diamonds", "Sunset Babies (They All Got Rabies)" and the heavy-hitting (sort to speak) "Steal That Car". Got a big laugh out of the nutty "Saga Of Jesse Jones" - a song about a whack-job who dresses up as his own bride. Uncle Alice's sick sense of humor is clearly intact on this title.
Alice is still awesome, but this disc only has 1 track worth listening to? What happened to him? He doesn't have any original band members still with him! Sad!
