I have built quite a collection of hi-rez multi channel music over the years. I have a dedicated home theater with equipment quality and configuration sufficient to take advantage of the increased sound quality available from SACD, DVD-A, DTS-A and BluRay Audio discs. I use an Oppo DV-980H player as a dedicated disc transport. I regret that multichannel-mixed discs never made it into the mainstream, but am pleased that the formats have not completely disappeared, and that firms like Mobile Fidelity are still releasing discs. I'm a rock and alternative fan, but listen to a lot of different kinds of music. I found a SACD of Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison and really enjoyed it, for example. Most hip-hop, and much of the 'girl-screaming-loudly-as-music' gets the 'CD-as-frisbee' response from me. That said, BTO's 'Not Fragile' is a long-time favorite of mine. I own it on vinyl, CD and now as a DTS encoded multichannel disc. I would rate the mix an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being the generally accepted as the 'most excellent' Roxy Music Avalon, and a 1 being anything by Celine Dion, no matter the media. :-) Bass response is adequate, and better than the CD, although probably quite on par with the vinyl version. The mix is open but not so much so that it becomes distracting. I paid about $30 for it and would do it again. It's playing now, and, ' Da-don, dun, dun , dun, dun, daa-don, blue moanin'....is rocking the house.Read full review
