"Alien Love Secrets" starts off with one of the heaviest, coolest songs around, "Bad Horsie," which I accidentally played very loud at midnight when everyone else in my family was asleep. Thankfully, they never said anything. Anyway, "Bad Horsie" uses one of Steve's heaviest tones and sounds like it could be the theme song for the biggest, meanest cowboys ever to walk the Earth. I know that sounds weird, but just listen to the song. "Juice," in my opinion, could also be called "Vai Boogie" as it is like Steve's own version of Joe Satriani's "Satch Boogie." Both are simply jaw-dropping. "The Boy From Seattle" is a nice, thoughtful tune and shows a different mood than other songs on the album, as does "Tender Surrender." Of all the songs on this album, the coolest has to be "Ya-Yo Gakk," which is sung by his two year old son Julian. It is a testament to Steve's producing and editing skills that he can make a little boy sound like a rock star. Everything about this album is perfect. It cannot truly be described in words, so buy the album and you will have a true gem.Read full review
VAROOOOOOM!!! This album imedeitly takes off like a shot with both barrels. Even though there are only 7 songs on this one, the first two are my personal favorites from Mr. Vai (Bad Horsey & Juice) and are worth the CD price themselves, they're that rockin good. The whole album is a great mix of deep melodic materpieces to heavy hard rockin jams that really kick some major ass. There's also a clever little song that he edited together with his kids called Ya-Yo Gakk which incendently are the only lyrics on the album. There's also a DVD out of the same title with all of these songs in an MTV style format and some with an extra camera angle to show exact fingering for musicians learning the songs.Once again, another kick ass Steve Vai album as only he can deliver so get out there and buy it and take the ride. You won't regret it. I promise. ENJOYRead full review
This Steve Vai album rocks very hard and is also very excellent from start to finish. The only drawback to it is that it does not have too many songs on it. The songs on it though, show exactly how much of a talented guitarist that he really is. If you want to want to get excellent guitar sound lessons from Vai, than you have to get this cd, you won't regret it at all. I wish that he did more albums like this, by the way. It is so very cool to hear his creative guitar sounds, because nobody does it like he does.
