What a pleasant surprise this album was. Cactus didn't try to fit in with some current trend, but rather just did what they do best, which is hard and heavy blues based rock. They weren't called the american Led Zeppelin for nothing. This album sounds like it could have been released right after the Restrictions album, which was the last album with the original lineup. There are great guitar riffs and some smoking leads from Jim McCarty who is one of the most under appreciated guitarists that rock has ever seen, and this band has one of the all time best rock rhythm sections with Tim Bogert on Bass and Carmine Appice on drums, who previously played together in Vanilla Fudge. Jimmy Kuens, who sang for Savoy Brown in the eighties, fills in nicely for Rusty Day who passed away in the 80s, and has that same whiskey soaked voice which compliments these hard rockin bluesy songs. This album has all original songs and is a solid rocking bluesy album from beginning to end with excellent production. Any fan of the original three albums that Cactus released in the early seventies is going to love this album as well.Read full review
If you like ANY of the old Cactus stuff, or blues- southern rock- classic rock, you just GOTTA have this cd!!! Raw, meaty, bluesy, gutsy, rock -n- roll! If you know of anything better that was produced in the last 5 years, I'd like to know about it!
