When this album was first released in 1966 it dazzled the listeners' senses with guitar and rhythm innovations that had already become a trademark of the Kinks two years earlier with classic British rock hits like You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night. Face to Face gave us a new, more refined Kinks, blending subtle melodies and lyrics into a tapestry of finely crafted art. The songs contained on this LP are sometimes light and fun, such as "Dandy" but more often provocative and rich in flavor such as "Rainy Day in June", "Little Miss Queen of Darkness", and the ultimate Kinks Classic "Sunny Afternoon" which remains perhaps their greatest accomplishment of all-time. This remastered disc is beautifully done and brings this Kinks monumental LP into the 21st century with full and rich sound that is never overblown as are some more poorly remastered LPs from the 60's. This one is a definite must for all Kinks fans - those who experienced the original LP in the 1960's will be finely rewarded - and those wanting to experience a prime sampling of Ray Davies classic work for the first time could not choose a better vehicle. "Sunny Afternoon" is worth the price of admission alone.Read full review
I am inclined towards vinyl but this CD version contains bonus tracks that include I'm not like everyone else not available other than as the B side of Sunny Afternoon. Very happy with the recording quality as I am pleased to have the music available but accept that recordings of this era and especially those of Pye records are no match for more modern techniques or equipment. The Kinks are truly a Diamond in the rough
