With no musical background or knowledge my thoughts and opinions on this album are purely from my innate sense of what I like and what I think works as a piece of music. This review will not bedazzle you with pretentious musical terminology, or informed opinions on what should be expected in their next album, far from it, it will just be purely a reflection of the music shaped by other music I have listened to. My decision prompting me into purchasing this album was a revelation in terms of my outlook on music mediums and the music industry. I'm not going to hold back, I like so many others have, in the past, obtained music in the shed-load from illegal file-sharing sites. But, one day I took a conscious decision and deleted all my illegally downloaded tracks in my itunes library. Two years later, an empty iPod and with a little sense of regret I made the decision to go back to basics and obtain music in the way God intended - not by means of internet downloads but in the CD format. Discovering the wonders of ebay has restored my somewhat depleted itunes library and my repect for the music industry, who do we think we are ripping off the very artists we so love and cherish? Well, now I suppose its onto the album! Friednly Fires first came into my life just last year, I'm not going to claim my affection for them before they made it big on the music circuit! My delight came when I found that they would be appearing on the NME satge at Reading Festival 2009 which I would be attending. I think they've got the balance right between the more upbeat music that gets people moving and that something different, in Fires' case that afrobeat quality thats always looming in their tracks, its prominence more evident in the popular 'Jump in the Pool'. Right, I'm getting quite tired of this review now and my own words so I'm going to try and tie this up soon. Another quality that they embrace is that retro 'synthy' thing used to good effect in 'Skeleton Boy', which for some strange reason seems to ingrain in my mind the image of that skeletor cartoon thing. Looking at the track listing on the album, I was dissapointed not to see 'Kiss of Life' which I heard on the radio at the tail-end of last year, what was it just released as an LP or something, cos that thing afrobeat in the bag-full. Right I'm getting really bored of my own meandering, monotonous, measly words so I'm going to sign out now. Hope you liked this review or more snippet of what I like, and its that annoying sister show to that publically aclaimed one, it's that xtra-factor and its that that I want more of inthe next album, good work the Fires. I have never written any review or anything like this ever in my life so I hope its been appreciated, if not I'll just coil in my indignation, not really you can just discard this - but thats just another one of our failures we've adopted a throw-away society and it sucks! Over and out, but looking forward to the next album xxxxxxxxxxxRead full review
I heard the catchy track `Skeleton Boy` and hoped this would not be the only good song on the album. I was not dissapointed! this album is BRILLIANT! If your into that electro pop and want some of that 80`s sound (but modernised)buy this CD. I`m into all genres of music but i can safely say this is one of the best albums i`ve bought and i promise you will have it on repeat all day.
One of the best CD's i have purchased for a very long time. All the tracks are brilliant, something you do not find very often.
