I bought the 12" LP as soon as it was released because Sammy's 1980 tour did not last long. Compared to his earlier concert recording, "All Night Long", I was a little disappointed with the overall quality of the performance; he sounds a little out-of-breath on some of the tracks. I vaguely recall reading an interview with Sammy after he joined Geffen commenting that "Live 1980" was released as a contractual obligation, & that he was not happy with it either. But this new CD version offers something really cool for old fans--a very rare performance of "Someone Out There". This was one of his space-exploration-themed songs from his early days. Like the rest of the material on "Live 1980", the performance is not Sammy at his best, & "Someone" sounds much better in the studio--here he doesn't hit the high notes near the end in "Some day they're gonna come!", but it's still a fun CD for fans who were not able to see his aborted 1980 tour.Read full review
