O.K. Just about everyone agrees this is Purple's finest (and certainly most successful) album in their catalog. Any DP fan has or has had this album in their collection since it's release in 1972. I've personally had it on vinyl, 8 track, cassette and CD. Every song on this disc is a classic, from the opening track "Highway Star" to the closer "Space Truckin'". So what makes this the definitive package? Why should anyone go out and buy this record again? There are 3 reasons why you should get this 2 disc set TODAY! 1) The 28 page booklet included here that tells the amazing story of how this LP came to be recorded.(follow the lyrics to "Smoke on the Water" for a clue). 2) the complete album has been re-mastered, with the original B-side to the "Never Before" single (which tanked,by the way)"When a Blind Man Cries" included. Plus a couple quadraphonic mixes. But the real reason to buy this 25th Anniversary Edition is... 3) The Roger Glover Re-Mixes!! on Disc 2, bass player & producer extrodinare Roger Glover returned to the original Master Tapes & totally re-did the album. One may think "why mess with a classic?" but believe me, this is how the album should have sounded in the first place! Where songs originally had a faded ending, they now come to their full conclusion just as they did in that cold corridor of the Grand Hotel in the winter of '71. Alternate guitar solos are used on a couple tracks including the classic "Smoke on the Water", which gives the song a whole new "Live" feel. In-between takes chatter is minimal, but you can hear some throughout. The sound is incredible. Very fresh sounding, and not at all dated, this Deluxe Edition of this classic Deep Purple album is a must have for any fan not just of DP but of Heavy Hard Rock!Read full review
I have no complaints about this album package. I have all the "Anniversary Editions" from Deep Purple Mk2 and I tend to think they're always a great value. However, this version of Machine Head is one of the best. This package includes the original album remastered, the non-album single "When A Blind Man Cries," and quadrophonic mixes of "Maybe I'm a Leo" and "Lazy," and the second disc includes a remixed version of the full album plus the non-album single. You also get a nice booklet and an outer sleeve for the jewel case. Machine Head was my gateway to Deep Purple, and I think anyone who considers themselves a fan of the album or the band will find this deluxe edition interesting, especially in the remixes. I even prefer some of the remixes to the original versions. If you can find this for a decent price in good condition, I'd highly recommend picking it up.Read full review

The remastering makes this anniversary edition really POP! It's like someone pulled a half dozen thick winter blankets off the speakers...An all time great Rock LP for sure!

The album itself is incredible, made even greater by the inclusion of a second cd which features the whole album done by Roger Glover (different versions). Great stuff!
