If you are expecting Solders II or THWTD part 2, I'll spare you. It's not. What you do get is a quality record from the guys. With the addition of Tracy Ferrie to the band, you get a tight new CD. Not taking anything away from Tim for all that he's done in the past, but this CD takes Stryper in a new direction soundwise. The opening track, Open Your Eyes, you can hear the tight bass lines throughout the whole song. Something I've not heard from Stryper in a long time. Classic Stryper 4-part harmonies are back in this song. Robert's drums are the hardest hitting in a long time (including the 2 new songs on the 7 CD). The title track, has a different feel to it. It's got a darker edge to it while drawing you in with the recurring bass hook throughout the song. I only have one question....Where's the guitar solo? Oh sure, there's one towards the end of Make You Mine, but it's not a real shred like we all know Oz can do. The best song lyrically on this CD is Passion. Fits well in line with all their other ballads (i.e. Honestly, I Believe in You). The remake of Amazing Grace at first put me off a little due to hwo Michael structured the lyrics from how it's traditionally sung. But after a few spins it's finally growing on me. More Stryper harmonies and some great bass and guitar from Oz and Tracy. But it just ends so abruptly. The remake of In God We Trust just slays! This is the version that they should have worked on and put on that CD back in 1988. That's all I need to say about that (Okay I was watching Forrest Gump when I wrote this review). Track Listing: 1. Open Your Eyes 2. Reborn 3. When Did I See You Cry 4. Make You Mine 5. Passion 6. Live Again 7. If I Die 8. Wait for You 9. Rain 10. 10,000 Years 11. I.G.W.T.Read full review
This is an excellent album from a group that started out in 1983, then when they became Christians they changed the name of the band and changed musical style to Christian Contemporary with a definate but softer Heavy Metal Edge. Since their Debut, with The Yellow ans Black Attack (the color of their spandex outfits) they have released 3 other albums with new songs. Each with its own distictive style. The Last one was a dud, because they changed their distictive style, and crossed over to regular Heavy Metal and went Secular. Present day,or a couple of years ago after each of the three original band members have gone solo with varying amounts of success they Reform the group, again change their outfits, but with a style more akin to regular street clothes. The musical syle and message is still as unique as ever, still Christian still Heavy Metal and still Rock & Roll.Read full review
Great muscic by one of my fave christian rock bands. I loved their new music and a classic of theirs redone as well as a rock version of Amazing Grace. Definately a good buy. Their music is definaelty christian but some of it could also be thought of as more contemporary, with a more "romantic" feel as well (example: Make you mine, the 4th track on the cd). I would recmmend this cd to anyone that likes christian music or just rock music.
I got to say this is the best Stryper album out there. It has heavy songs and it has soft to heavy songs with a worship feel to them all. I was shocked how good this album is. When I played it for my friends and family they were shocked too. They all said "That's Stryper?" wow they sound good. I have to say its my best album of 2006. Money well spent.
This band obviously has tremendous talent but this cd is sadly lacking, especially towards its end. Even a rejuvenated redo at the end doesn't make up for where it lags. Open Your Eyes, Reborn, and Live Again are good songs but the rest are reminiscent of Against the Law, which was a bomb. These three songs do transport Stryper into the new millenium but the rest could have been done without. Their new ballads suck. These guys still rock and still seem sincere in their faith, but this is not a consistent cd. Their talent is still there, but they lack creativity and the cultural ties which would add a new generation of fans.
