I hadn't purchased this cd before because I thought it was yet another remastering and repackaging of existing material. It's not. It's a concert recorded a dozen or so years ago with Robert, Jimmy, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham. I really enjoy Led Zeppelin live recordings and hope you do too. A great addition to the recorded repertoire.

This recorded-live CD with Bonham's son, Jason Bonham, powerfully driving the drum (wow) section, makes this a force as good as any Led Zeppelin concert I've seen and certainly the best recorded one; "How the West was Won" would be second. The packaged insert notes (including concert shots of the band) indicate the band practiced for this performance a few months around their availability schedules and met the approval/expectations of original members: Plant, Page and Jones in 2007. The results will surely delight you. Part of the thrill of Zeppelin concerts was their play of songs with Zepped-up variations and jams amidst the original fare. An example is portions of 'What is And Should Never Be' inserted with simple beauty to enhance 'Ramble on', CD 1, track 2. The transitions from the instrumentals highlights are flawless. "Celebration" is exceptional in regards several wonderful 'live' modifications of studio effects, specifically with 'In My Time of Dying', + 'Since I've Been Loving You', + 'Stairway to Heaven', + 'Kashmir', but the entire album's performances are a real enjoyment for the hard-core fan as well as the first time listener. You'll particularly enjoy the effect the band has when rolling straight from one song to another, showing the energy and stamina they had to play long sets and hit highlights as well as changes of pace. On a personal preference note, the recorded selections here are unmarked by 'crowd interference' which mars many live performances where the perpetual drunk in row three near the mike screams "I love you man!" throughout the quieter portions or pauses of each piece. The concert gets right into it and Plant gets audience participation going, even gives some biographicals as he was wont to do, but his lyrics and the background vocals and the choreography of instruments with his vocals, timing and continuity are *just exceptional* for any LIVE concert. Celebration Day gives you eight long tracks on each CD and a great sampling covering the original Band's career and sadly proves it was both possible yet tragic they did not continue the Zeppelin dynasty to go on touring, recording thereafter. Last note: being a live CD, there are constraints on studio 'enhancements', which honestly detract from 'live' and thankfully here, these are imperceptible, ...if they exist. So buy it, turn it up loud and set your bass and treble high and get all shook up: this is an album you should have! This excellent concert recording puts you there.Read full review
I've never been a huge Zeppelin fan, and I basically bought this as an add on from a seller I was buying two other cds from. My expectations were not that high, and I figured there was a good chance I would re-sell the cds after listening a couple of times. Now that I have listened close to a dozen times, there will be no listing on ebay for this excellent set. As with any live set or greatest hits, there are a few substitutions I would make, but there is little to quibble over here. I may have to reconsider my opinion of Zeppelin, and revisit their catalog because of Celebration Day*. *Is it just me, or is it quite annoying when the song an album is named after is not on the album?
This a bookend to the "Song Remains The Same" soundtrack! A necessary items for avid collectors. I am slightly disappointed by the quality of the physical disc. I have gone through a couple of them.
