This is now one of my favorite albums; it has been on heavy rotation since I received it last month. EVERY single track on the album is great, and the more you listen, the more texture and brilliance is revealed, both musically and with regard to lyrics. This album blends blues and a bit of a country vibe without truly fitting into either genre. Chris Whitley's vocals are also uniquely beautiful. Highly recommend this for anyone's collection.

I bought the original the same day I heard the song 'Poison Girl' on the radio in Sweden It was the same year the CD came out. I was amazed to find that it was one of those rare musical purchases where every single track is fantastic. I had never heard anything like it, and I never will again. I purchased this again from e-bay in 2007 because my CD was scratched. I couldn't live without it. Such a sad fact that Chris passed away so young in 2005. I recommend this CD to any vocalist, any slide guitar player, any bassist, any drummer, or anybody who loves good music. The lyrics are mysterious and the music takes you places. I could listen to this CD a bazillion times and never tire. Every single person I have played it for has been moved by it, including people from all walks of live and musical preferences. If you buy this, and don't like it, I'll buy it from you so I'll have a spare!Read full review
Chris Whitley, you haven't heard of him? Well, most people haven't but then again most people have been missing out too. With a sound a little like a subdued Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris is an outstanding singer/songwriter who has mixed great lyrics/vocals with acoustics and a bit of slide blues guitar in a very easy to listen to form. "Living With the Law" only produced one track that was played on the radio (to my knowledge), the song "Big Sky Country". But don't let that fool ya, the entire cd is excellent and very easy to listen to from beginning to end.
Forgot how much I loved this "Living With The Law" CD - which I lost over the years and recently replaced via eBay. Whitley was a hell of a singer/songwriter who died of lung cancer a few years back and never really got his due when he was around. Great CD - especially at a time when the music business sucks and the wrong kinds of artists are getting all the marketing dollars and promotion. Definitely worth checking out as Whitley obviously influenced several other singer/songwriters of this generation. This CD came out 17 years ago - and not only was it way ahead of it's time, but it's remained timeless and important nonetheless.
At 1st Chris whitley evokes images of Dylan &Lou Reed but that is an unfair comparison. He is so unique- this is just different than what I have ever heard before. Even my sister liked it- & she doesn't notice music at all
