Boston's 1976 debut album sold 17 million copies. It took two years, several member changes, and the genius of Tom Scholz (Masters in Engineering from MIT) who produced this album in his basement studio (financed largely by his day job as Sr Product Engineer at Polaroid) to come up with a debut album with so many hits. The demos that came out of that basement were later redone with EPIC signing the "band", but splitting producing rights with Scholz (very rare for a major label to give up half its production share with an unknown band). In terms of actual work, it was an all-Scholz production, still in his basement, and at his pace, with EPIC "co-producing" only in financial support. Smart investment by EPIC, this album is as listenable as it was in the 1970s, one of the all-time "Classic Rock" albums. MasterSound used the original master recordings without much colorization. In other words, they thankfully left Scholz's sound intact (why tinker more with the two years of Scholz's tinkering?), and this album is as close to the originally produced tapes as one will likely ever hear. Turn up the volume! The clean sound layers flow without distortion, and hear the album in it's original glory.Read full review

Love the clear, crisp sounds of these gold master CD collections. They sound so clean when you're pushing through a lot of power. I'm collecting them for all of my favorite classic bands, cuz I can't stomach what they call music nowadays. Well worth the extra expense. Cheers, Noreforce

Collectors of Boston would like to have this in their inventory but the average user may not care either way that the disc is gold
