This is a compilation of "pre Eliminator" tunes. There is not a bad song on this CD. I bought it for "Just Got Paid", "Waiting On The Bus", "Jesus Just Left Chicago" and "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers". ZZ Top was playing stadiums post "Fandango" and I saw them on the "Tejas" Tour. An amazing show I witnessed with about 60,000 other folks at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, in the early Summer of 1976. If you are a ZZ Top purist, you probably own "Rio Grande Mud", "Tres Hombres", "Fandango", etc. Short of that, this compilation is a very good introduction to ZZ Top before the highly commercial (But still very good.) "Eliminator".
ZZ Top has carved its niche in rock n roll by being "those guys with the beards" but their music goes much deeper than their signature appearance. From a soulful blues ballad like "Jesus Just Left Chicago" to the raging biker classic "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" its a complete collection of truly the best songs from the bands early years. Nobody has ever sounded like ZZ Top since their inception in 1971. Never duplicated and never imitated, full of booze and attitude, this is the perfect starting point for the rock n roll fan to enjoy a truly unique blend of funk, blues and soul.
