Purple's 2nd Re-union album, that was well enginered/produced,that TOTALLY missed its mark!! Perfect Strangers was very hyped & slapped together from the much anticipated re-union that earned them tons of $$ .. This well produced record, aimed to put Purple on commercial radio with "Call of the Wild" with only minimal success, while well wrote "Bad Attitude" totally missed its mark..A shame for this well produced album, compared to all the other 80's garbage that fared better..A lot more time was put into putting this album together, that put the crack into the armor of this famous line-up,that lasts to this very day!! This album is very good, like most Purple albums!!! But Purple's love/hate relationship with radio & music critics, have kept later day Purple more of an underground cult following!! Their 93 album "Battle Rages On" was their best work ever, but got lost from Blackmore quiting the band till this day..This album along with much of Purple's work is overlooked, such a criminal shame!! Being Purple was the fore front runner of their time of Hard Rock in ALL fronts!! In the 70's their in the Book of Records for- WORLDS LOUDEST BAND!!! Take the time to listen to this album & others in Purple's Blackmore era albums!!! Also check out Blackmore's re-grouping of Rainbow in the mid 90's "Stranger in Us All" .. This album sold over 100,000 in its 1st. week of re-lease, a great feat for any album todays time!! But it soon would get lost in the shuffle, shortly afterwords during the grunge period.. A shame being that album sounds much like whats be played on the radio today, but 20 yrs. earlier ?? So take the time and check out the Purple era!! Theres tons there besides- Smoke/Water,Highway Star,Woman/Tokyo, etc. !!! So treat your ears & fill your head- Enjoy!!!Read full review
The Classic rebirth of the best Deep Purple #2 line up continues. It is a good follow up after the '85 comeback and the previous album "Perfect Strangers". More blusy songs like "Mitzi Dupree", have me turning the stereo up, while "Bad Attitude", and "The Unwritten Law", are more like songs on "Perfect Strangers". My favorite song is "Black and White", which has a statement to tell about the media. But of course the reason to get the album is the tight base-drum-synth (Glover-Paice-Lord) driving the songs forward, with Blackmore's lead guitar, and Gillian's still great vocals. Not quite as good as "Perfect Strangers", but it is damn close.
Very good cd.
