Excellent album, originally bought on vinyl in the 70s. This is one of the unknown gems from the 70s. This one was bought to replace the terrible first copy I purchased on Rhino Records. Beware of which copy you buy as the Rhino copy breaks up, which should be unheard of on a CD. The reason I didn't think this was good value is I've now purchased this same album 3 times, because of change of media and a bad CD.

A very impressive debut by the sisters McGarrigle, generally rated now as one of THE definitive recordings of the 1970's, but which today still sounds every bit as great as when it first appeared. Hard to categorise musically, sometimes superficially bouncy but with a tinge of sadness in the lyrics (eg. "Kiss and say goodbye", "Foolish you", "Complainte pour Ste. Catherine", "Swimming song"), sometimes jazzy (eg. "Tell my sister"), sometimes achingly bittersweet (eg. "My town", "Heart like a wheel", "(Talk to me of) Mendocino"), and more besides, all delivered with the most delicate and wonderful of vocal harmonies. If this CD has somehow passed you by till now, check it out. It's a classic!
