If you have to choose only one Whitesnake Cd for your collection, it's very simply SLIDE IT IN must be that one pick! This 10 track Cd not only features the best band lineup with the likes of legends John Sykes on lead guitar, Cozy Powell on drums, Jon Lord on keyboards & Neil Murray on bass, with of course David Coverdale on lead vocals, but also features such hard rockin' classics as "Slide It In", "Slow An' Easy", "Love Ain't No Stranger", "Guilty Of Love", "Spit It Out" & "Standing In The Shadow". Truth is all 10 tracks are superb, there are no duds or throwaways in the lot. And if though the band's follow-up to SLIDE IT IN, the eponymous WHITESNAKE Cd, would sell better, true fans of the band know that SLIDE IT IN is by far the superior release! And FYI, the U.S. & UK versions of SLIDE IT IN are mixed differently, with the U.S. version having a louder guitar & drums sound and the UK version spotlighting more of the keyboard work of Jon Lord, so buyer beware...you definitely want the U.S. version because the sound quality is so much better. SLIDE IT IN remains one of the truly classic hard rock releases of the 90s and is a must have release for fans of the genre. I give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars because yes it's that excellent! "Slide it in" is clearly a turning point in Whitesnake's carreer. Especially this version, especially re-recorded (partly) by John Sykes for the U.S. market, featuring the same songs enhanced and re-mixed and put in a different order than the european release. Whitesnake already had a serious reputation in Europe and several excellent albums out (Come an get it, Lovehunter, ready An Willing,...). The bluesy/rock feel is definitly put aside on Slide It In, and goes for a more hard rockin', AOR sound while remaining soulful and deep, if only thanks to David Coverdale's amazing voice. The songs are solid and mostly mid-tempo with big sing-alongs refrains. Embelished by great guitar and keyboard solos, and the steady drums of Cozy Powell. In a way, it is a very strong album, and yet for me probably Whitesnake weakest...Not anymore the rhythm and blues, slide guitar, groovy hard rock from before and not yet the amazing Hard rock from 1987 or the newest Good to be bad for that matter. Still a great album full of thrillin' songs (love ain't no stranger, Slow an Easy, Gambler,...). But then again with david Coverdale , it can't really go wrong...Stick it in, slide it in!Read full review
I used to have this album many years ago, and really loved it. I had wanted to get it on CD for a long time, and was thrilled to see it on eBay. Great melodic rocking songs from the Whitesnake's high point era - the late 80's.
the best whitesnake album of all. made when they still rocked hard, before the poofy hair torn blue jean pussy rock of their MTV years. made hard to be played loud.
