I fell into this album backwards, purchasing "Pyromania" and "High and Dry" first. On this album, you see the foundations of the classic Lep sound, particularly on Rock Brigade and Hello America. It's very interesting to play this album back-to-back with "Pyromania" or "Hysteria" to hear the band's rough-hewn beginnings against their polished (over-produced?) sound. Not my favorite Lep album ("High and Dry" has much stronger songwriting and better hooks), but certainly not the worst either ("Adrenalize"--why?). A solid recording debut.
On Through the Night is a good album but little bit heavy for my taste. My first album of Def Leppard was Hysteria on a cassette tape about 23 years ago. I still have it and it works fine but I bought it on CD of course. Since then I fell in love with Def Leppard. In my country music stores don’t have everything. I’m glad I found it because I wanted to collect all of DF albums.
Def Leppard before Mutt Lange got a hold of them... Really cool riff-rock from a bunch of youngsters. I loved this record when it first came out. Still do.
