Following up 1984's fantastic and successful 'Perfect Strangers' was a tough act to follow, but Purple does a respectable job with this album. Very 80s' for sure with slick production, synths, faster songs, and a bit of that 80's hard rock vibe; but still very Deep Purple. Highlights include: Bad Attitude, The Spanish Archer, and Dead or Alive; though these aren't the only good tracks. I think side two is better than one in my opinion. The songs are good and musicianship is good (Ritchie does not disappoint and has some great riffs and solos). Is this one of the best Deep Purple albums? No, but its not bad and definitely has some great moments. Not as good as 'Perfect Strangers', but still a good hard rock album. I like the production and I think that the SHM format really boosts the sound and makes this album sound even better.Read full review
