I bought this album when it came out years ago. At the time it spoke to my teenage angst, anti-authoritarian sensibilities (stupid adults). As I listen to the lyrics now, as an adult, it is saddening to find that they are more relevant than ever. From the treatment of indigenous people and people of color, to the two-faced, corporate owned politicians stinking up Capitol Hill with the carcasses of what little honor they had, this album still calls it out and hits hard. My teenage angst was replaced by disappointment in a flawed system, then replaced by disgust at the lip service we're continually insulted with. So while I ponder what we can do to improve our world for everyone and put an end to the mockeries of justice we see on a daily basis, this album is my soundtrack. It's a darn good one, too.Read full review

I like and or love half the album. "Wind Below" and "Down Rodeo" are really good and I like a few other songs, but I don't think this is Rage's best album.

It's a great album, very intense. The closest thing to a punk RATM album. I particularly like "Snakecharmer," "Tire Me," and "Down Rodeo" (tracks 5, 6 and 7). I definitely recommend checking it out!

Rage Against the Machine is better than Audioslave. Although, so is Soundgarden. For those of you who don't know, the lead singer of Audioslave is Chris Cornell. He used to sing for Soundgarden. When Rage Against the Machine broke up, Chris Cornell decided to form a band with the remaining members...thus Audioslave. Though..this isn't a review for them. The reason I'm writing this is because many of Audioslave's fans don't realize that there was something before them. Rage Against the Machine is perhaps the most politically influential group of the 90's. Many compare them to the iconic Bob Dylan who regularly wrote about the injustices of government and society. Rage Against the Machine made it a focal point of "Evil Empire" to show the world that these injustices still permiate through the winds of today. The fact is, only a small percentage of the world's population heard "Evil Empire". For those of us who did, it leaves a lasting imprint. Whenever I feel angry, riled up or just ready to rock, I throw on Rage Against the Machine's "Evil Empire"...and most notably "Roll Call". ...Another review from Sublime Boutique.Read full review
This is one of my favorite albums. I not only love the intensity of the music and lyrics, but it also takes me back to teenage shenanigans in the 1990s.
