The 2016 Japanese remaster of Chicago 19 has breathed new life into —the otherwise weak and muddy sounding—Chicago 19. It elevated 19 to the top of my Chicago album lists. Compared to the original CD release, the Japanese remaster sounds like a new "remix", a new album. You can hear the bass enveloping the room, the keyboards are crystal clear, and Tris Imboden's drums are finally audible. Guitars are no longer buried in the haze of sound of the old cd. Instead, they have a bold, overdriven presence here. If you're a post-cetera-era Chicago fan, this remaster of 19 might give you a jolt of excitement. Well worth the money.
