Athlete is one of the best and most underrated bands out there. Their sound is just perfect and you can hear the passion.
Bought this with Athlete's new album coming out later this month and having got their earlier albums. Have to say the group have moved on nicely, their sound is richer without having entirely dropped the quirky electro-synths. As ever there are some great melodies and the tempo is far more up-beat than the first two offerings, with more guitar in there as well, which is always good! In parts remind me of Editors and Thirteen Senses though vocals retain distinctive slightly breathy edge. Overall a great offering, with few weak moments, a couple of stonking rock tunes and a couple of delicious mid-tempo ballads. Let's hope the new album shows further development. Good stuff!
THIS IS THE 3RD OFFERING FROM THE UNDERATED ATHLETE GREAT LIVE AT THE FESTIVALS - THEY GO THEIR OWN WAY WITH MELODIC INDIE STYLE POP - POLITICAL IN PLACES AND HURRICANE BEING ABOUT STORMS AND GLOBAL WARMING, THE DISK STARTS WITH A GENTLE OPENER IN BETWEEN 2 STATES AND SPEEDS UP AFTER. THIS ALBUM DOES TAKE A BIT MORE TO GET INTO THAN THE LAST ONE, BUT IF YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE TIME AND ABOUT 3/4 PLAYS YOU'LL SEE WHAT A QUALITY ALBUM THIS IS WELL WORTHY OF BEING IN THE CD COLLECTION OF MOST HOUSEHOLDS.
Great album, beautiful swooping sythns and guitars,Hurricane is a fantastic song,as is 'Bus Stops'.Superb...
Another good solid album by athlete with a few stunners in there. I really loved the track 'In Between 2 States' The music is solid stuff. an amazing album which will surely go down as one of the best albums of 2007.
