This is a brilliant album, featuring some of Harrison's finest songs. Many of his subsequent albums have been patchy affairs but this set contains many of the songs that he wrote during his latter years as a beatle. It must have been quite frustrating to have so many of these great songs passed over in favour of some of Lennon and McCartney's weaker songwriting efforts. Still, he has the last laugh here by proving that many of these songs are, at the very least, on an equal par with his fellow ex-beatles' finest solo work. (My only real objection is that personally, I find the new version of My Sweet Lord and the Apple Jam tracks a bit tedious and not so essential.) My main gripe with this set is Phil Spector's rather 'overblown' production, which draws an echoey blur on the great music created by George and his fellow musicians. Some of it works, some of it doesn't. However, this (George Harrison) remastered edition does attempt to refresh the mix a bit but I suspect that Spector's final touches may have proved rather difficult to completely clean up. Regardless, it is arguably Harrison's finest work and the songs and musicianship is first class.Read full review

George Harrison is arguably the foremost songwriter of all time, not using lyrics which fawn about the emotion of love but creates instead a collection of words which are written from the heart through genuine experience and this has to be his best ever album.
