If late-60s psyche pop is of any interest to you at all, you'll certainly enjoy this band. For a guaranteed head-swirler, check out "A Visit With Ashiya." In that vein "Drivin' Side Ways (on a One Way Street)" is cool—and my favorite track. Some cuts, like "Things (Goin' Round in My Mind)," "Girl (I'm Waiting for You)" and "The Big Gray Sky" have a delightful sunshine pop breeziness that's impossible to dislike. Others—no less likable—have a grittier edge, such as "In a Minute Not Too Soon," "Lost in the City," "Madame Silky," "Your Painted Lives" or "I'm Flyin' Home." But whether breezy or gritty, nothing here displeases. Repeated plays? Absolutely. Merrell Fankhauser and H.M.S. Bounty is another obscure band, in a long succession of them, that made marvelous music. Text. Very brief liner notes. Digipak. Since Things is an original album without bonus tracks, you won't be surprised that it only runs 32:42.Read full review
