After I read the other reviews of this cd, I listened to it again to see if I missed something. I have concluded my first reaction was correct. I don't need something else to make me feel old. This, for the most part, is simply boring. The song selection is poor (Love Train?), the arrangements are overdone, and the girl back-up singers are nothing short of annoying. Also, Rod has learned to e-nun-ci-ate every word clearly, losing a great deal of feeling in the process. My advice is to get out your old Rod Stewart cds (or LPs), and make a mix of "I'm Losing You", "This Old Heart Of Mine", and the other R&B covers he recorded before became a historian. I didn't expect much from his 70s cover album, but soul covers? This was a great chance for him to shine, and it sounds like his "people" picked out the song and the band, booked the studio time, lined up the guests, and wheeled Rod in to read the lyrics as he recorded. "Rainy Night in Georgia", and "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" are the best of the lot. The Voice is still there, but inspiration could use a boost. Hopefully Vol. 2 will be songs Rod actually cares about, not selected for their instant recognition. By the way, "Let It Be Me" is not a soul song just because Jerry Butler sang it.Read full review

I LOVE Rod Stewart, named by child after him. I collect his CD's, books etc. This is a very good CD, the only song I didn't care for was the Mary J Blige combination, wish he would have sang the song by himself or with someone else. I don't care for all that caterwalling she does. I would recommend the album though, some really nice songs. Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson etc.
What can I say? It's Rod Stewart ...... love it, love it, love it. I have all of his music, well at least the last few mellow cd's, and I play them constantly when I'm home .... they bring back a lot of old memories and his voice is very relaxing. Hope he releases a new one soon.
