Cage the Elephant's self-titled debut album was a solid effort from an up-and-coming band. The single "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" was a revelation -- an unexpected and delightful tune that was instantly likable. Unfortunately, Cage the Elephant can't duplicate the success of its first album with the band's follow-up work, "Thank You Happy Birthday." The nonsensical album title sets the stage for the whole record, which is an aimless mess of tracks that sound as if they were cribbed from the cutting room floor. Matthew Shultz's impressive vocals -- which were front, center and downright greasy on the band's first album -- take a back seat here to screaming and cacophonous noise. The only tracks, it seems, where Shultz is at his best are the songs "Shake Me Down" and "Sell Yourself" -- and both are weaker than most of the material on the band's first album. In all, "Thank You Happy Birthday" is a huge disappointment for fans who were so transfixed by Cage the Elephant's star-making debut. In a high-pressure music environment for new bands, it would have been better for Shultz and company to stay in the studio a bit longer than rush through this substandard album.Read full review
I got the cd at ebay cause they seem to have the best prices on cds and cte is a very good band with a different sound, and the cd I purchased had one of my favorite songs on it which is why I purchased it.

Excellent delivery. New CD at an excellent price. This group rocks-like 70's rock. First band from Kentucky that kicks it. Never thought it would happen.

I was really impressed with this album. I think it proves that Cage The Elephant is here to stay. More strong lyrics that people can relate to, sick guitar riffs, and the lead singer really gets into the music. You can feel it. If you liked Cage's first album, then you gotta get this one.
