Definitely one of my favorites. If you liked the metal side of Alice Cooper, but not so much the softy-ballad stuff, you'll want this album. Raise Your Fist and Yell is one of his best, the guitar riffs from Kane Roberts are at his best in this one. Heavy through and through, but also quite catchy, there are some great hooks in this album which bring up the question... "why wasn't this album a huge success?". I definitely ask that question. The drums hit hard, with double-bass kick in a number of songs, and the guitar has the refined, pure, heavy sound of 80s heavy metal. Try on some heavy songs like "Freedom", "Step On You", and especially "Roses on White Lace". There are some good catchy ones like "Not That Kind of Love", "Prince of Darkness" and "Lock Me Up"; and be sure to listen to "Gail", really brings back the sound of "Years Ago/Steven" from his album "Welcome To My Nightmare". A well put together album, I give it two thumbs way up!Read full review
This is one of My most favorite albums to play,it's like an AC/DC,Manowar,or kiss (...'80s era Kiss) release that You would never rate as being among the "All-Time" best, but the songs hold up famously. Alice had come off of light success with songs he submitted for the "Friday the 13th" Pt.VI soundtrack a year earlier, those songs will long out-live the movie, similarly to AC/DC and the sci-fi/horror film "Maximum Overdrive"(but I like both movies, actually).Anyway,"Raise your fist..." has a handful of hard-hitting Classics - anthems like "Roses on White Lace","Give The Radio Back","Lock Me Up",etc. All the songs have great drum-rhythm and Alice cuts incredibly deep without one single "Bad" word...Rock & Roll 101:you don't HAVE TO use explicit language to drop an anvil on the competition!!!. This truly hidden gem is long overdue in terms of recognition and new listening ears. I warn that, depending on what you are listening to these days, you may need a little time to appreciate the album as a whole, but I would suggest that (when you're listening for the first time) you should play it while reading or working, just be occupied doing something - DO NOT SIT THERE IN FRONT OF STEREO WITH THE CD CASE IN YOUR HAND STARRING AT THE COVER THE ENTIRE TIME.YOU WILL HATE IT THEN. Goodluck and I really hope I helped ya out.Play it as loud as your ears will let you!!!!!!!Read full review
Alice Cooper came back with a vengeance in 1986 with "Constrictor" after a renaissance-period with 4 albums, shedding is signature make-up & stage theatrics in 1978 with the "From the Inside" album & tour. With the "Constrictor" album, Alice returned to his horror-Themed music with such tracks as "Teenage Frankenstein" plus a song on a "Friday the 13th" soundtrack entitled "He's Back-The Man Behind the Mask". "Raise Your Fists and Yell" is like a "Constrictor" part two, yet with more brutal imagery and flashy metallic guitars on tracks entitled "Time to Kill", "Chop, Chop, Chop" & "Step on You". This album wasn't a chart topper like with "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome to my Nightmare" but is now a cult classic for die hard Alice fans from the 70s along with new younger fans he picked up during the 80s--where hard rock & heavy metal became very popular. Alice now stood side by side with his 70s constituents that made successful comebacks in the 80s--KISS, Aerosmith & Ozzy Osborne. (Though Alice Wouldn't regain platinum selling status until his next album release: "Trash"). This album has no filler and featured a pair of new metal musicians--guitarist Kane Roberts and bassist Kip Winger, who went solo and experienced moderately successful solo career. Both musicians co-wrote most of this album with Alice. It you love 80s metal, this is a great album to add to your collection. Read full review
