First off I love RJDs voice, but age shows a little rust on the pipes. Now don't get me wrong, he still sounds good but things are not as they were in the 80s. But he still sounds considering his age, and better than 3/4 of his competition. The rhythem section of Simon Wright and Jimmy Bain are very tight, their playing compliments each other very well. The guitarist that Ronnie chose to play on this offering is none other than Doug Aldrich! He is the one bright spot on this disc, and one of my favorite guitarists of all time. I personally thought that his playing was pretty restrained, but after all Ronnie is the king of his castle. My favorite song on this disc is "scream", it has a vibe that had me banging my head a little bit. If you are a big DIO fan, you will probably be disappointed. The songs in my opinion are weak when you consider their past offerings. This would have been a much better disc if Doug had total freedom in writing the music and arranging it. But Ronnie has his vision and this was it; but it could have been better. If you are a huge Dio, and need this to finish out your collection then go ahead. But I would try to get it cheap as possible if you can. Now to fans of Doug; his playing is very good, but he has done alot better. All in all I thought it was a lackluster effort from Ronnie and company, consider yourself warned. Thanks 9493kyleRead full review
