The little side project known as "Victor" by Alex Lifeson is a must have for Rush fans. Most people already who agree that the lead guitarist for the band Rush is probably near or in the top 10 guitarists currently playing so your going to notice just how well the lead licks and rhythm guitar performed on this cd. Alex has help with the guitar work from Bill Bell but, what may shock you to learn is that Alex also plays bass on this release, and he does some of the vocal tracks along with a fellow named Edwin. Another nice little jewel out of the 11 tracks on this 1996 solo project is track 9 "The Big Dance", this is probably my favorite of the songs on the disk, and Les Claypool from the band Primus laid down the bass on this one. This is a heavier than Rush cd which at times reminds you of different Rush songs due to the guitar work, but this solo project by Alex really stands on its own and is an outstanding piece of hard rock, its just too darn bad that he didn't follow it up with more material from this group of musicians because this is 5 star material all the way!Read full review
This is a different kind of album. It is definitely not a Rush-sounding album like Geddy Lee's solo project. It's more a cross between heavy metal and Frank Zappa. Alex Lifeson lets his impulses flow on this one. The vocals are done by other musicians, but Lifeson's guitar playing is, as always, first rate. Lifeson's wife even gets into the action with some unique vocal contributions of her own. This isn't one you'll want to play all the time, but when you're in the mood for it, it's worth listening to.

So, of course, I'm a fan of Rush. First concert: Rush. So, I was pretty excited to grab this album some years ago. It suited me well, at the time I was getting into some of the harder rock. This album is pretty heavy - much like later Rush. It is good for an adrenaline high. However, for me, it doesnt pass the test of time. Now, it is a good listen once every 6 mohths or so - thats all you need. The synths are pretty good in this album, too - and you can see Lifeson's experimentation at work. I would love to see another album by this great guitarist.
