This isn't the best FF album...but then again, it's hard to beat the first four FF albums. But to my ears it sounds better than the previous album, Sonic Highways. The songs that were released on videos ("Run" and "The Sky Is A Neighborhood") are far from the best songs...so if you're on the fence after listening to those (as I was), there are some jewels buried on the album. There does seem to be some filler on this album...as has been the case for the past couple albums as well...but, the stand out songs are "Make It Right", "La Dee Da", and "Sunday Rain". Some of the songs the lyrics are completely incomprehensible...and buried in the mix. I don't think the overall mix on this album is the best that the Foo's have had in their career. In my car, the bass (as in bass guitar) gets lost in the mix, with all the low end being emphasized by the kick drum. As is with typical FF sound, the guitars are heavily distorted on most songs, and are more of a wash of sound in places than defined. I'd recommend this album to any true FF fan...the casual listener might not care so much for it though. But I have all their (studio) albums...so I had to have this one as well. I got it on CD. It's got a booklet with it, but there's no lyrics or credits of any kind. Apparently, there's 6 members in the FF now...as there are six silhouette-like images (one on each page of the booklet). No mention of anyone's names, what they played, who wrote the songs, who produced, mixed, etc. Even the CD itself has nothing printed on it other than the standard copyright notice, not even a mention of who the CD is by or what it's called. I know this type of graphic art has become trendy in today's popular music, especially very well established artists...but I'm not a fan of it. I like identification on the CD, and production credits somewhere on the CD. Lyrics are optional...but if you're including a booklet with 8 pages, you'd think there'd be something more than just the photos. Who knows...the LP version may have more information...I don't know.
