CHRONICLES is a tremendous 2 Cd BEST OF collection from legendary Canadian rockers RUSH that has it all! From early classics to late 80s/early 90s hits, I simply cannot find a fault in this release. CHRONICLES features such early RUSH as "Finding My Way," "Working Man," "Fly By Night," "2112," "The Trees," "Freewill" and "Spirit Of Radio". And it has their great later work to from "Tom Sawyer," "Red Barchetta," "Subdivisions," to "Time Stand Still" & "Show Don't Tell". I think only a RUSH fanatic could find a missing piece or two, but for 99% of fans, CHRONICLES is the RUSH Best Of Collection to hit in your Cd collection. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
These are some of the greatest songs by Rush gathered together a single collection. While I prefer some of the early jamming Rush tunes, the later songs have a character themselves that feature the talents in unique angles that demands a new appreciation. While when it comes to the best of the best songs, I prefer Triumph to Rush - I fully concede Triumph's 'great' songs is a short list compared to the number of great Rush songs. Anthem, La Villa, Tom Sawyer, 2112, and Red Barchetta.... simply incredible songs. If you are any kind of Rush fan, unless you have all of their discs already - this is a great compilation to cover a great deal of their music. Now don't be mad because I like Triumph's Fight the Good Fight slightly better than Rush's greatest hits, like I said, Triumph's truly great songs only numbers three or four while Rush's can't be put on a single disc thus the two disc set here. But many other of Rush's greatest hits compilations are lacking for this very reason, because they attempt to fit the songs onto one disc and then fall short by including some 'new unreleased' song on a greatest hits collection.Read full review
Really just a great compilation. More of an "icing on the cake" for most who already have a good collection but great for the person who likes a lot of the more mainstream (radioplay) songs. No need to go into the talents of Lifeson, Getty or Peart... You're a Rush fan... you obviously already know of their spectacular abilities. BTW, have this already on many machines, cloud and phone... Bought it hard again because I haven't learned to not loan out my CD's unless I want it returned damaged. SMH, bought this, listened to make sure it plays fine and probably will never play the DISC'S again.
The 2-disk set "Chronicles" by Rush covers the years 1974-1989. True to the title, the disks are arranged in chronological order with about two cuts from the Rush debut through Presto. The album has all of the essentials including "Working Man," "Closer to the Heart," "The Spirit of Radio," "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight" and "Subdivisions", though it is missing some awesome songs like YYZ, By Tor & The Snow Dog, Xanadu, Cygnus X-1 & 2, Marathon, Open Secrets, and others. Bottom line is Chroincles is a great start for anyone just discovering Rush, or to complete the collection.
Great compilation. Highlights from the Mercury years plus Show Don't Tell from Atlantic era. Sound quality is main reason to get this, because it sounds as good if not better than my German Atomics. I don't believe this set has ever been remastered, and that's a good thing ! Highly recommended...
