An unusual and interesting album - but not great. I'm a big fan of the classic Canned Heat line up. Blind Owl was beyond a doubt one of the most unique and creative bluesmen ever. Until recently my collection contained all of the classic line up releases except this one. Let's start with the .... umm .... weaker aspects first: The forty minute live version of Fried Hockey Boogie, known here as "Re-fried Hockey Boogie". Well, it's not bad! It probably doesn't warrant repeated listenings, but it's not boring. You get to hear Blind Owl exploring his rhythmic thing, a cool solo by Larry "the Mole" Taylor (an excellent player who I'm still coming to appreciate more), and about 8 minutes each of lead guitar solo (and I do mean "solo" - no one else is playing) and drum solo. All interspersed with the Bear sing a version of "Feel So Good" with other standard blues verses added. Sandy's Blues: I've read some opinions that call this a high point. I see it as very predictable variation of It Hurts Me Too. The long (about 20 minutes) Parthenogenisis thing: It's really just a bunch of ideas stitched together. Some of it is really good. Boogie Music: A decent idea but not excecuted very well. Another thing about this album: Although it's well recorded, some of the guitar tones aren't great. And there's extreme stereo separation (which was sort of a sixties learning curve I guess) - which means you can listen to Henry Vestine and Blind Owl in isolation from each other, which is very cool from a guitar point of view, but not so great from a natural sound point of view. Did I mention that the Bear is just a little bit weak voiced in places? By this time I may have convinced you not to buy this cd -- That's not my intent! I'm glad I got it - but it's better for fans and completists. There are several really good songs, but if you're new to Canned Heat start with Future Blues (near perfect) or Boogie With .. (a classic) and then on to Hallelujah or a good compilation. Then - if you still want more - you may very well enjoy this cd.Read full review

This is Canned Heat's 3rd LP, I believe. It's possibly their best - I know it's MY favorite. This is a double album with live performances included. It is so good to hear these guys jam again after all these years! The recordings stand up well, and the performances are better than I remembered. A double Canned Heat LP on one CD...a bargain!
. I was happy to find the sound is close to the original vinyl and no pop or hiss, even better no flipping that LP. I recommend this as a replacement for those tired Vinyl Records, 4 and 8-Track and cassette tapes. This complete and well remastered reissue of this great Canned Heat album is a fantastic copy highlighting top notch Canned Heat in both studio and live settings... And Don't Forget To Boogie.
