The Del McCoury Band is the perfect example of what a Bluegrass band should sound like. Del's high lonesome tenor vocals pays homage to Bluegrass founder Bill Monroe. Listening to Del's voice makes one feel like they are falling backward off a darkened cliff. This is not a bad thing since Del allows you experience the freefall then lets you down softly. His two sons Ronnie and Rob are quite possibly country music's most talented musicians. Ronnie McCoury makes the mandolin sing in a way that harkens back to the way the master Bill Monroe use to play. Robbie McCoury masterfully plays the banjo and matches or surpasses the talent of that great banjo master Earl Scruggs. Jason Carter plays the fiddle and is acknowledger as one of the best in the business. His fiddle work can bring tears to you eyes brings images of the blue mountains into view. Mike Bub keeps perfect time on the bass. He ties the enter ablum together with expert timing and shows great skill. The entire Del McCoury Band has been awarded countless best Bluegrass band awards and they contine to earn, and receive, these awards. The band is tight and clean in their playing. No mistakes are made and the choice of songs played is innovative and shows the youthful influence of Del's sons'. A great buy and a must for Bluegrass lovers.Read full review
