Produced for reissue in 1999 by Bob Irwin Original recordings produced in 1968 by Bob Johnston Published by Columbia Records / Sony BMG Music Got Johnny Cash? This is a good addition. Looking to introduce yourself to Johnny Cash? This is a great place to start. At Folsom Prison places Johnny Cash in an auditorium with his band, his wife, and an audience of some 2000 inmates in one of America's most notorious peniteniaries. Songs range from apparent brushes with the law to humorous stories of everyday life we can all relate to, and present a good idea of the variety his music ranges through. His sound is true Country. His mood on this album is not quite as dark as you will find on his studio albums but the content is still there, and is the reason behind a "4" out of five star rating. This album has been remixed into 20-Bit digital sound. It includes three traks not released in the original 1968 issue, and many previously unreleased photos of the event. Cheers! The man in black is set in what we would closely describe as "unplugged." Maybe even like a VH1 storyteller episode. The point is that is exactly how far ahead he was with this concept; although, everyone was acoustic in folk-country-rock (rockabilly) back in that era. If you truly appreciate this type of music, this is ambrosia! You get it all. Live performance, raw atmosphere - it is like being there in person. Bob Seger is currently touring America and a ticket is high priced. If Johnny were to perform like he does at Folsom - only the super wealthy could afford one. If you know anything about Johnny, he would never stand for it. Johnny Cash fans rise up and stake a claim to your preference in music. Do not hesitate to buy this CD album! Don't forget that you can burn the songs to your computer Media Player and also transfer them onto your MP3 player. You can listen to Johnny wherever you may go...even share the music!Read full review
I had purchased this album some 25+ years ago as an LP. Over time, it was damaged and then discarded. When I found this item as a remastered CD on ebay, I jumped at the chance. The CD has great sound, two more songs than the LP had, a great booklet describing the experience in Johnny Cash's own words, photos of a young Johnny, June Carter, etc. and Folsom Prison. What a treat. I have played it numerous times since my purchase and hear a little more each time since it is not only an album but a piece of history.
Authentic Johnny Cash sound!! " Live From Folsom" made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. You will hear it all. Uncut and unedited!! And by the sound, the prisoners were a great crowd!! If you are a Johnny Cash fan, you will need this for your collection!!

BY THE WAY, THIS IS A KILLER REMAKE. IF YOU LIKE JOHNNY CASH IS HIS RECENT RECORDINGS, YOU'LL LOVE HIM WHEN HE WAS HOT IN THE LATE 60S AND EARLY 70S.
