This 2 on 1 CD includes The Beat 1979 and The Kids Are The Same, the first 2 albums by Paul Collins Beat. The tracks on this CD have been taken from the master tapes and digitally re-mastered for compact disc. This disc also contains 2 previously unreleased bonus tracks, including There She Goes from the Caddyshack Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. In conjunction with these Wounded Bird CD reissues, Paul Collins Beat has also released an album of new songs called Flying High. (I read about it on www.paulcollinsbeat.com the site for anything Paul Collins Beat and The Nerves). If you're going to purchase the Wounded Bird Reissues such as The Beat 1979/The Kids Are The Same and To Beat Or Not To Beat/Long Time Gone, I would also strongly recommend Flying High, the new album. For a guy whose band toured with The Ramones, The Jam, Devo and The Police, Paul Collins truly is Flying High. Heck, he even made a solo album in the 90s with Chris Isaak's Silvertone, Chuck Prophet, Jeff Trott from Sheryl Crow and Cyril Jordan from The Flamin Groovies/Magic Christian. Paul Collins got his start with Peter Case and Jack Lee in a band called The Nerves in the 1970s. The Nerves originally wrote and recorded Hanging On The Telephone, which became a huge hit for Deborah Harry and Blondie when they covered it on their Parallel Lines album. Paul Collins Beat continues to tour Europe and Japan, but plays in the U.S. with Paul Collins Band. Paul Collins Band plays lots of the old favorites as well as the newer material. Paul Collins Beat is often labeled as classic rock, new wave or punk rock, but the truth is they're still ahead of their time.Read full review

Who knew? If you like power pop (whatever that is), this is for you. I knew "Rock and Roll Girl" and then remembered "Don't Wait Up For Me" but the rest is good, solid, songwriting with ringing guitars and mucho harmonies. They don't write'em like this anymore. Hey, it's cheap and you get two records - go for it. Then you'll be in on the secret of the Paul Collins Beat.
A friend of mine turned me onto Paul Collins. I listened to a few of the songs from this CD and decided this is definitely a CD to buy. Great music from 1979 and 1982.
