I am a 40 something guy who generally listens to classic 70's and 80's rock and after hearing a couple of Shinedown songs they caught my attention. Us And Them is a combination hard rock and not so hard rock which reminds me of classic albums of the past. I usually can't find any new rock that I like enough to buy. I bought this CD and I listen to it over and over again. Every song is enjoyable to listen to. The lyrics are understandable, not some angry sounding guy screaming at the top of his lungs with a loud head-banging bass guitar causing your speakers to wonder what they did wrong to deserve that. Don't get me wrong, some of the songs are best heard loud like: Heroes, Save Me, and Yer Magesty. There are a lot of good songs on this CD that radio stations will eventually discover and play. The popularity of this CD and band should only increase over time. This CD should please the younger rockers as well as the older rockers like me. Give it a try.Read full review
Shinedown Sophmore Release "Us and Them" is a truely Amazing CD. If you love radio rock like 3 Doors Down, Nickelback and Trapt I highly recommended picking this CD up. It a mixture of light and heavy Rock. It features their big hit "Save Me" on the CD.
This is the most underrated band I have ever known. I went to see them open for 3 Doors Down in Columbus, GA a few months ago and they were incredible! The day after the concert I went and bought Leave a Whisper and then I had to painstakingly wait for 3 months for the best X-mas present EVER! Us and Them has literally not come out of my CD player since X-mas and will stay there for a long time from now. I went to Atlanta to see them again on the Sno-Core tour where they co-headlined with Seether and that concert confirmed my love for them. If they come in a 200 to 300 mile radius of my house, I'll be there to see them perform! If you get a chance, go and see them! Tour dates can be viewed on their website www.shinedown.com. You will NEVER forget the first time you see them live. Trust me, you wont regret it for a second. Buy Us and Them AND Leave a Whisper! My preference is Us and Them but a lot of my friends like Leave a Whisper. Buy it here or better yet, go and buy it now at your local FYE, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart. SHINEDOWN RULES!!!Read full review
"Us And Them" was my first Shinedown album and I was pleasantly surprised! I found bits and pieces from sounds of other bands that I like to listen to mixed well and executed brilliantly. For me the album's sound marks a nice fusion of "Crossover" and "Old School Metal" with a range that will include everything between "Soundgarden" and "Pink Cream 69 (also PC69)". To me leadsinger Brent Smith is mostly responsable for the mood and sound changes throughout the album. Compared to their previous album I'd like to say that Brent Smith matured somewhat in terms of not overdoing the ballads like in the remake of "Simple Man" where at times he seemed to get carried away and overdo it to a point where it sounded tacky! I also found that this CD was recorded and mixed well, so that it will get the best out of your stereo equipment. It has a powerful bass and brilliant mid and high notes. So long story short for every one who is on the market for an addition to harder side of his music collection!Read full review
I only recently discovered Shinedown. I generally don't like alternative rock bands, but Shinedown like Candlebox, 3 Doors Down, and Nickelback don't quite fit my idea of alternative rock. They have styles that just rock period.
