this is where one of the influential bands of the times came from,I personally prefer the magic, mystical type lyrics to some of the glitzier later material, and the awesome pitch backing vocals of Roger Taylor,a perfect match for the great Freddie Mercury. I found this pressing needed a fair bit of gain on my amplification.,but in fairness it is an earlier album, all in all a great listen, with highlights being "keep yourself alive", "Fairy King" (some innuendos in the lyrics?) ,and a very governmental track called"Liar".

The first album by Queen: raw and produced very simply, yet effectively, this Album is very stripped back when compared to the output that followed. The Guitar is very sharp, and heavy..and there doesn't appear to be any overdubs. I like it a lot, because it show-cases a direction which Queen never went in, instead opting on this debut's follow up, Queen 2, to throw the proverbial Kitchen Sink at the overdub process, a lot of the later releases also had eye-watering amounts of production. Here Queen play, creating a great sound, with strong Songs that approach Your speakers like they had arrived naked from the original Mastertape, such is the stringent and no frills approach/ production. Songs such as "Doing allright.." turn monstrously heavy after a brilliant introduction of peace bedecked strumming and gentle singing, altogether a surprise for any listener who thinks Queen was all about Radio GaGa, or A kind of magic. The album ends with a few bars of a famous song which was then given it's full debut on Queen 2. A great, ecstatic first appearance as a recording Group. Buy this.Read full review

I heard a song that i liked on tv, bannered as Queen Queen. So i bought it. Iplayed it when it arrived and did not recognise the punchy tune that i'd heard on tv while listening. Perhaps a different arrangement.
