Most remix c.d.'s leave me disappointed, wishing everything still came out on vinyl l.p.'s. Not so with this one. Nothing from the original album was left off. The crisp, clean sound of digital recording is present and the sound quality of a vinyl l.p. can still be felt and heard. When I first bought this album in 1973 with money from my after school newspaper route,Aerosmith immediately became my favorite band. Music had never sounded so good. Yes,Rock & Roll was arriving and Aerosmith was leading the way. Listening to this c.d. as I'm writing this reminds me of how Aerosmith was destined for greatness from the very beginning. 36 years later I would still rather listen to this c.d. than 95% of todays bands. If you remember early 70's Rock & Roll, this album,or just want to experience the sound that shaped the future of music for generations to come, this is one that you must have in your collection.Read full review
This recording, the first of many, is classic Aerosmith and demonstrates why the band has its staying power. When somebody says, "Classic Rock", this is the kind of music I think of. Containing the rock standard, Dream On, this CD would be worth the purchase price if that were the only song on it. Luckily, the remainder of the album lets you get lost in the music and brings you back to an earlier time, one without cell phones, pagers and 24 hour a day news cycles. The technical level of the recording shows that it was definitely done in a studio, with a recording engineer who was new to stereo, with far too many passages coming out on just one channel. Despite the over-eager engineering the majority of the CD is a pretty good example of the dynamic range of the CD format, a display that is sadly missing in modern recordings as companies race for dynamic compression in the bid to play it loudest. When the drummer hits the kick drum, you should be able to notice that it went from quiet to loud, and this CD demonstrates that wonderfully. I most heartily recommend this CD to anybody that wants to experience what Rock can be.Read full review
I had this album on vinyl when i just listening to music i. always have been a AEROSMITH FAN.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
This albumn came out late seventies when I was a teenager. I still have my original copy on vinyl. As raw as this recording is it is probably my favorite Aerosmith albumn. This is before Steven Tyler sarted "screaming" and using a lot of gimmicks other than just music. To me its all about the music. Was happy to find a copy of this recording on CD.
What we have here is a true classic album. Now on CD where there is so much more to be heard. Maybe I'll show my age, but there is something special about the "crackle" of vinyl. This was the only way I'd ever heard this entire album in my house. (yes, I do still have turntables here) Remastered or whatever it is they do when putting it onto CD's brings out so much more of the music! It seems all so new.
