On Rio Grande Mud, ZZ TOP plays a heavier, more powerful sound, turning the boogie guitars into a locomotive force. Also, here they have a much better set of songs than before, highlighted by the swaggering shuffle Just Got Paid, the pile-driving boogie Bar-B-Q, the slide guitar workout Apologies To Pearly and two Dusty Hill-sung numbers, Francine and Chevrolet. Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell is my all time favorite ZZ TOP song. It is a true blues piece with passion and expression. This is a song that really stands on its own.

The first 2 Album's of ZZ-Top are must have. Raw Texas Blues Rock energy brought into the studio. Not over polished and not over commercialized......This is ZZ-Top.

ZZ Top's 2nd album is easily as good as their first, and third, and fourth...well you get the drift. Even though this release didn't have a single radio hit it is very well done and full of catchy rock songs. "It sure got cold after the rain" is perhaps my favorite track, and if your not familiar with it then your missing out. The guys 'with squared off beard's' have been at it for quite a while now but to really know them best you must go back in their catalog and explore these first studio efforts. Another way to get this, and the first 6 releases (my personal favorites from the little 3 piece band from Texas) is to also consider buying the ZZ Top Sixpack. It is 3 cd's w/ 2 studio albums on each disk, all tracks included in their entirety an in order. Enjoy! A-how, how, how, how!Read full review
