Well we Heep fans have waited 10 years for a new album and boy have they delivered, without a doubt the best since Equator.Mick Box has always been an underrated lead guitarist and here he proves he is (and always has been) up there with the best, there are some serious great licks on here,Bernie Shaw is singing better than ever again definately a top class artist,Bolder and Lanzon (bass/keyboards)play with the class we know they have and new drummer Russel Gilbrook steps into Lee Kerslakes shoes behind the drumkit very nicely a good debut. With not a bad track on the album and many of the old Heep traits in the mix it is a pleasure to listen too,the boys proving there is life still in the Heep.Wake The Sleeper starts the album with Mick letting go,traditional harmonies are there and some great drumming, next comes Overload, some real nice keyboards drive this song along, again Mick excels and the vocals are spot on.Track 3 is Tears Of The World, another song that just belts along at breakneck pace with a brilliant guitar solo and Boulder/Gilbrook driving the boys along, another excellant track.Next comes Light Of A Thousand Stars with an intro wich reminded me of Sweet Lorraine,a real old style Heep track driven along by great preformances from Bolder/Gilbrook nuff said.Track 5 is Heaven"s Rain with superb keyboards throughout and just slowing the pace down a bit, good song though! Book Of Lies comes next, again a good all round performance with Mick letting go midway through,on to What Kind Of God,with lyrics asking questions i think we all have,Bernie Shaw is amazing here a stunning performance, destined to be a Heep classic simply a great epic song with a fantastic instumental finale.Track 8 is Ghost Of The Ocean flies along stepping the pace up again with Mick and Gilbrook duelling each other in the breaks brillint.Angels Walk With You comes next, everyone excels here a real band song leading into Shadow with a down and dirty feel to it.Finally there is War Child and Bernie Shaw excels again, another good effort to finish a great comeback for the Heep. Well what can i say this is the Heep album you have been waiting for,in Micks own words "Appy Days"Read full review

Uriah Heep!! I loved their early stuff went to see them live and have all Heeps golden oldies in my collection all of which I consider to be real classics, they produced such a diversity of songs that every track on an album was totally unique and every album different from the next. Unfortunately in my own opinion as the years went by their music started to loose its unique quality and passion (along with my attention span), naturally I was quite excited when I recently read some great reviews on "Wake the Sleeper" and decided to give "Heep" another go and add the album to my collection. As soon as I recieved the album I fired up the Hi-Fi and gave it a blast and to be absolutely honest was a little disappointed, perhaps my expectations were too high who knows but although musically it is very good and very definately "Heep" it just did'nt move me, I know "July Morning","Sunrise" or maybe "Magicians Birthday" are hard acts to follow but to me this is not in the same league. I have listened to the CD several times now and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, some great fast paced guitar riffs, strong vocals mixed with the old "Heep magic" but I just does'nt deliver the Wow factor for me. I have tried to be as honest as I can be and this is only my personal opinion, please do not let this review put you off as this is a decent album from a hard working and highly entertaining rock band and definately worth a listen!Read full review
I remember buying "Look At Yourself" and "The Magicians Birthday" as new LP releases(This shows my age) and nearly 40 years on I`m still buying new Uriah Heep releases... This album while being bang on modern day rock, is still unmistakenly "Heep" at their finest. Mick Box is the only surviving member from their first album and it`s a tribute to him that this album sounds modern and also has not lost the original Uriah Heep "sound" Old or young, check this out for a classy rock album.
