I was pleasantly surprised by this ring flash. It seems to be well built from quality materials & works fine. For the money it's got to be a bargain. You can use one side only for better lighting but ther is no inbetween setting so it's out with the black tape to control the balance. The manual is understandable (just) but could do with revision into proper english, if not for this it would have got 5 stars.

Not really a proper flash but a led light OK for macro work. The flash is so weak it just flashes the LEDs but hardly enough to make a an effect on an image. Treat as an led lighting lamp with limited range.

I bought this product in order to have enough light for macro prohotgraphy. It is portable and need small space in my back pack. Operates with 4 AA batteries. It's easy to use, has different functions and settings. Pros: easy settings, adjustable to different lenses via adapter, light function Cons: Flash not strong enough for me (10 GN), higher ISO required, more color adjusting work required during processing
I bough this lamp I am only interested in the occasional macro shot and bulked at the £400 to £500 charged for macro flash by the camera manufacturers. What you get with the Meike is essentially a ring of LED lights with a battery box that fits on a hot shoe. There are also a selection of adapters for different sized filter threads. Just screw an adapter to the lens and click the lamp unit to it. As a flash I don't think it is particularly good with all shots being under exposed. This is probably a problem with syncing to the camera properly as if the unit is set to be on all the time the shots are OK. It is possible to set the output level when the unit is used as a lamp which may be helping the exposure. It is also possible to set whether left or right only lights are used. I have not found this particularly useful and as the lamp unit is loose on the adapter rings, left quickly becomes top if the unit is not fixed with sticky tape. I have been a little critical of this unit but for a price which is less than 10% of the cost of a Nikon unit it does provide decent illumination for macro shots so is well worth the money.Read full review
THis is a good alternative to using camera built in (fill) flash - Much better lighting with less shadow. It is also very useful for macro photo. Usage is simple. You choose between flash and light. Also possible to use only half circle of the ring for shadow effects. Finallly light strenght can be adjusted.
